Yuba Sutter Symphony

The Yuba Sutter Symphony is a volunteer group with over 40 musicians from the Yuba Sutter area. They present six concerts throughout the year including Handel's Messiah, Messiah for Kids, Fall Classics Concert, Young Artists Concert, Spring Fling Pops Concert and annual 4th of July Patriotic Music Concert.

Maestro Corey Kersting, Conductor

Mr. Kersting is a long-time resident of Yuba City and a product of the YCUSD music program. He holds both Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in music education from the University of the Pacific. Mr. Kersting has been conducting the Yuba Sutter Symphony since 2002. At UOP he studied conducting with Dr. Eric Hammer and Dr. Michael Allard.

As a young violinist, Mr. Kersting was a student of Ingrid Gaston and Michael Neuman. He was one of the Yuba Sutter Symphony Young Artist soloists in 1991, and was a member of the Sacramento Youth Symphony. While attending UOP, Mr. Kersting studied violin performance with Dr. James Stern and music education with Dr. Ruth Brittin. Mr. Kersting is still an active violinist having played professionally with groups such as the Veridian Symphony Orchestra, North State Symphony, Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra, Bear Valley Music Festival Orchestra, Gold Country Chamber Orchestra, and the Paradise Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Kersting has also performed with artists such as Bobby McFerrin, Dave Brubeck, Olga Kern, and Michael W. Smith. Currently, he is in his 22nd year teaching strings for Yuba City Unified School District and is in his 25th year as director of the Yuba City High School Orchestra. Mr. Kersting lives in Yuba City with his wife and their four children.

April 22, 2017 Pops Concert

The Pops Concert featured soloists Alex Cesena, Elizabeth Hastey and Jerusha Reid. The evening also included the 4th-5th grade choir from Twin Rivers Charter School, directed by Mr. Obie Leff.
